William Babell – Violin/Oboe/Recorder Sonata no. 9 in F
Babell was Handel’s harpsichordist and was famed for his virtuoso playing. His XII Solos, For a Violin or Hautboy (suitable for the recorder), and include elaborate embellishments: ‘With proper Graces adapted to each Adagio, by the Author’.

Performance notes:
- The accompaniment part follows the stated tempo throughout with a slight retardation at cadence points and at the ends of repeated sections to facilitate breathing.
- All repeats are played.
